I am overjoyed that someone got to say what I wanted to say on this issue. I'll even take this a step further. Users want recovery media and NOT a partition with the files. We are paying increased prices and getting less. I know some would say that computers are becoming less costly, but this is a myth. Here is why.
Dinky resolutions @ best, slow or lathargic memory from places we can't pronounce, por ergonomics, lack-luster performance even on the P4 3Ghz models, bottle-necked I/O bus'es, and the list goes on! So what consumers are getting is exponentially lessvalue for their money while the product price falls imcrementally.
Sony computers are not on my list of computers to own quite truthfully. They are too fluffed up with lots of useless and space wasting applications which are basically supported by advertizers and are for the truly mind-numb who see a computer ONLY as an entertainment tool. My advice to them is to go get an I-pod and a brain while you are @ it.
Functionality is lost out of the box by distracting the user from the fact that he or she has paid way more than the unit is worth. THis is the Sony way!
Vista is a disaster wrapped in a attractive package. Couple that to Sony's lack of useful apps and you have a train-wreck.
To Sony: We the public are getting increasingly tired of your high handed tactics: Moves to kill file sharing( that is a topic so extensive that a book can be written about this, but not now),root-kits, refusal to embrace MP3 technology( Your Walkman glory days are over!), etc, etc. I could spend all day listing your transgressions against consumers.
Sony! Make better computers, couple them to robust operating systems. That is all.
If you don't, you will suffer the fate that says day runs until night catches it!

OK , I FOUND IT!!!

All you have to do is log on to the Sony Vaio Website and enter your model number. Go to the support section , and download All the drivers for your Vaio VGN-NR180E , then save them to your desktop. All the drivers from the website are for Windows Vista , but will also work for Windows XP Professional , so i think they will also work for windows XP Home also. Anyways , you can get all your drivers from there and all of them will work , except for the Audio Drivers.

To get the Audio Drivers working , Microsoft has created a Hotfix for that. I emailed Microsoft at....

nahotfx@microsoft.com

and asked for the Updated Audio drivers for my model , that will work with XP. They gave me this link , for a download for the hotfix. However , after you download the hotfix , you will need a Password , which they email you when they send you the download link for the hotfix. While installing the hotfix for your audio drivers , it will ask you for the password. Just Copy the password to the file , when it ask's you to , and install it. Then restart your PC. Then , go to your Device Manager , " right-click on My Computer , then click Properties , Click on the Hardware Tab , then click on Device Managaer. Then right-click the Audio Driver it shows with the Yellow Mark beside it. Click on Properties , then Update Drivers for that particular item."

Afterwards , it should install the correct driver. Re-Boot and see if it works. It did for me.

If you have any problems , email me at monica@brmemc.net , and i will help all i can.

Here is the info Microsoft gave me , when i asked for the hotfix....

Microsoft emailed me this to correct my problem with my audio driver and it worked for me. They wrote to me and said.......

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR180E Laptop. I have downgraded my laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium , back down to Windows XP Pro. Everything seems to work for me , even my built-in wireless internet connection. However i Cannot get any Sound At All!

When i open my Device Manager , i see 1 yellow mark under System Devices , and beside the Yellow ! , it says PCI Device. So i have tryed to install some drivers for it , after looking all over the Internet and when i right click on it and try to update the driver , it turns from PCI Device to High Definition Audio Controler and remained with a Yellow ! beside it. Then i installed More drivers , and un-installed it again. Then tryed re-installing it and it turned into Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio and again remains with a yellow ! beside it. I have tryed Everything!

Can you please help me?

Also , even though all this shows in the device manager , if i click on the Sound, video, and game controlers tab , it shows that there is Audio Codecs , Legacy Audio Drivers and some Video Codecs and Legacy Drivers Installed. Doesnt matter if i leave the PCI Device , High Definition Audio Controler or the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio installed , those do not change , but they dont help as far as getting sound for me.

I can get some sound when i click on Tabs that are not avaliable at time , but it is just a short "Tunt" sounding alert , as if my Laptop battery was going Dead. Thats Exactly what it sounds like and thats the only sound i can get out of it. I spent So Much Money on this Laptop and i HATE VISTA with a Passion , and now i feel like i just wasted a Buncha Money. But i get no sound when music is played , no sound when booting up or shutting down , or when playing games. Also when i go into the control panel , and click on sounds and multi-media as if i was going to adjust the Volume or update the driver that way , nothing is Hilightable or adjustable , and i cannot change any of the values.

Hope this helps you enough to where you can help me find what i need to make this LAPTOP make some Noise! I need Sound Bad!

Please Help! Anyone! My email is monica@brmemc.net and i am desperate. Someone please find it in your heart to help me , Please.

most of the drivers will have a .exe file that will install it for you. otherwise you can go into the device manager and right click on what is not working and choose your own location to where your drivers are.
