The Direction of Conscious Causation

“If I look at a distant star, the light may have taken 10 years to reach my eyes. I think when I project out the image of that star I’m in a sense connecting with the star with my mind. Does that mean that I’m connecting with the star as it is now or as it was 10 years ago? If that’s happening, if I’m projecting out to that star, does that mean I’m projecting ten years back into the past? I think it does and this to me raises a very important general principle: What is the direction in which conscious causation works?”

This is a clip from from the The Consciousness Chronicles. The Consciousness Chronicles is a DVD series that explores the phenomenon of consciousness from many different angles. Each volume features exclusive in-depth interviews with some of the world’s leading pioneers in consciousness research.
